Travis Scott Calls Off Chicago Concert Just Hours Before Showtime
Travis Scott’s concert in Chicago got postponed at the last minute on Friday. Fans, already en route to the show, were left fuming and took to social media to vent their frustration.
One fan expressed his disappointment on the rapper’s Instagram. “You did Chicago so dirty bro I was so ready for tonight man why didn’t you give an earlier notice?” he wrote. Another fan added, “Travis [I] just drove 5 hours to United Center no way u j postponed.”
The concert was scheduled to take place at the United Center. The arena released a statement via social media after 4 p.m. on Friday, informing concertgoers about the cancellation. The statement read, “Travis Scott’s show at United Center scheduled for tonight has been postponed.”
The statement assured that all previously purchased tickets would be honored for the new date. More information was promised to be posted and emailed to ticket holders directly when available.
On Dec. 16, Scott, 32, hinted on social media that he was stuck on an airplane. He wrote, “I literally spent 24 hrs on a f–king runway. Craziest s–t ever. To my people in Chicago I was so ready to go crazyyyy. Chicago always been one of my favorite places. I will be back the first couple days of January.”
After the postponement, the “Antidote” rapper also wrote on social media, “IM SOOOOOO F–KKKKINGGGGG HOTTTTTTTTTTT.” This might make sense if he was, indeed, stuck in an airplane on a runway, as airplanes don’t usually blast the air conditioner unless the aircraft is in the air.
Page Six reached out to his reps and spokespeople at United Center for further comment but did not immediately hear back.
On Friday evening, fans speculated that perhaps the “Sicko Mode” rapper was unable to make it to Chicago in time since he had just performed across the globe in Saudi Arabia. According to an Arabic news outlet, Scott opened up the Soundstorm festival in Riyadh Thursday with hits like “Fe!n” and “Goosebumps.” Calvin Harris and Metallica were also listed as performers for the overseas event.
One unhappy fan wrote on Scott’s Instagram, “Goes to Saudi Arabia a day before his Chicago show just to reschedule. Unreal.” Another wrote on social media, “Travis Scott picked dat Saudi money over the Chicago money and that’s that.”
The backlash comes just as Scott attempts to repair his image following his deadly Astroworld concert in November 2021, which claimed the lives of 10 people. Those who were killed ranged in age from 9 to 27, and died from compression asphyxia.
Scott said in a statement hours after the incident, “I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.” Houston Police launched an investigation into the fatal concert, but no charges were filed against the “Highest in the Room” rapper.
