On November 6, 2006 The Militia Group re-released The Rocket Summer EP, which was self-released in 1999 as the Early Years EP, and Avary signed with the biggest recording labels Island Def Jam Records. Avary attended and performed at the Dallas Rescue for the Invisible Children campaign in Dallas, TX, on April 25, 2009. The Rocket Summer’s “You Gotta Believe” music video premiered on AOL in December 2009, and featured clips of fans singing and playing along to the track. Avary was a student at Grapevine High School where he was a part of a dodgeball team known as The Bombardment Society, inspired by the film of Wes Anderson Rushmore. The team became the school’s biggest organisation during his attendance. Before beginning his musical career under the name The Rocket Summer, Avary was an Starbucks barista – an experience which inspired him to compose the hit song “This is Me” off of the Album Calendar Days. On February 23, 2010, The Rocket Summer released his fourth studio album, ‘Of Men and Angels on Island Def Jam. The album debuted at No. 1 on iTunes, surpassing The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. which had previously held the No. 1 spot for Top Album. To promote the new album, Avary performed the album’s lead single “Walls” on KDFW’s Good Day Dallas and KTBC’s Good Day Austin, and held a sold out hometown album release party at the Granada Theatre in Dallas, TX.
