Steve Coates is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on July 2, 1950 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. From 1999 until the year 2011, Coates was host of an hour-long segment that was airs during the first intermissions of local Flyers broadcasts on television. The segment was recorded in the lead-up to the games. The segments contained interviews with clarifications on NHL rules, an analysis of recent NHL events, and occasionally skits featuring Flyers players to entertain. The 2010-11 season saw Coatesy’s Corner aired decreasing in frequency and eventually was officially canceled at the close of the season.
Coates began his broadcasting career at the Flyers in the year 1980 as an on-air color commentator then switched into television broadcasting in the year 1999. The following 14 seasons on TV as an color commentator as well as a between-the-benches reporter of the Flyers before returning to radio at the beginning of the 2014-15 season.
Coates played in five NHL games for the Detroit Red Wings during the 1976-77 season, a time that was mostly in minor leagues.
