Schlapp was President George W. Bush’s deputy assistant and political director during Bush’s first term. He is married to Mercedes Schlapp, who was President Donald Trump’s Director of Strategic Communications.
Schlapp was appointed a lobbyist for Koch Industries in 2004, based in Wichita (Kansas). As vice president of federal affairs for Koch Companies Public Sector, LLC, Schlapp directed major federal policy strategies in anti-environmental, energy, financial markets, legal and tax reform.
