On March 30 in 2018, Bazley announced that he was going to be announcing his decision to skip college, with plans to become a member of the NBA G League directly from high school. He announced in April that he was hired as a the sports agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group. Syracuse director of basketball Jim Boeheim, who Bazley was expected to play for at the time of his move to college said, “I hope he does great. But I don’t think it’s the way it will be. I think it will be proven it’s not the way to get to the NBA.” An article in Bleacher Report speculated that Bazley might be “the face of the end of one-and-done” in terms of NBA draft eligibility due to his decision. In August, Bazley declared that he was dropping the G League plans altogether, preferring to work independently throughout the remainder of the season. On the 25th of October, Bazley started a three-month stint at New Balance worth $1 million. Following the completion of his work experience, Bazley became one of the first players who entered in the 2019 NBA draft. In January, he paced his Princeton team by scoring 24 points during a national broadcast game against the top prospect Romeo Langford and New Albany High School. Bazley also participated in his participation in the Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoop Summit in April.
Bazley started playing basketball in high school in the fall of his freshman year at Finneytown High School in Springfield Township, Ohio. He was declared ineligible during the beginning of his first season. In his sophomore year, Bazley started drawing interest from various colleges which included Ohio State and West Virginia. After scoring 15.8 pointsand 12.4 rebound, 3.8 assists, 2.4 blocks and 1.5 steals, he made it as a member of the DIII Southwest Ohio all-district second team.
